The Volvo 480 arrived in the late 1980s and was a bold step away from Volvo's traditional boxy estate image. It was also the brand's first front-wheel-drive car. Its shooting-brake silhouette and pop-up headlamps quickly set it apart from most rivals. Produced from 1986 to 1995, the 480 was offered with 1.7-litre Renault-sourced engines (naturally aspirated or turbocharged) making it a unique choice compared to mainstream coupes like the Volkswagen Scirocco or Toyota Celica of the era. Practical, with a roomy cabin and useful boot, the 480 carries a confident, slightly eccentric charm that’s hard to look away from. Today, its rarity, character, and surprisingly sensible running costs mean it's still a popular choice among classic car seekers.
