Overall rating 4.5/5The Q3 was a result of Audi’s decision to launch a more affordable SUV to complement its growing Q lineup of heavy hitters. As it turns out, the Q3 proved to be a clever move, becoming one of Audi’s best-selling models since its introduction in 2011.
Featuring a wide range of engines, interesting features, high-spec cabin and the Quattro AWD system, the Q3 is worthy addition to Audi’s SUV lineup. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, Audi updated the Q3 in 2015 and also debuted the second generation which took the game even further with sharper design, and more efficient powertrains! A year later Audi introduced a sleeker Sportback model with coupe-like styling, while a plug-in hybrid joined the lineup in 2021. If you are shopping for a used SUV that pampers you with luxury and features, the Audi Q3 might just be the perfect fit!

The new Audi Q3 is equipped with some interesting standard and advanced safety features. Multiple airbags, brake assist, Audi pre sense front, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, parking plus system, etc., are some of the highlights.
The Audi Q3 has been available with a wide range of engine options across model years throughout its four generations. Some of the popular engines include the 1.4, 2.0, 2.5-litre TFSI along with the potent 2.0-litre TDI engines. There are also some hybrid options paired with the 1.4-litre TFSI engine. On the extreme end, there’s the RSQ3 with a turbo 2.5-litre TFSI engine with serious power/torque output.
Over the years, the Audi Q3 has been equipped with numerous technology and infotainment features, typical of any Audi. Some of these are driver’s virtual cockpit, MMI system, large infotainment screens, voice control, Bang & Olufsen sound system, wireless charge, multi-zone air conditioner, Wi-Fi hotspot, etc.
The fuel consumption of the Audi Q3 varies on the engine and drivetrain configuration. The 1.4-litre TFSI units with the hybrid are the most fuel efficient delivering a combined approx. 188 mpg, combined. If a hybrid is out of your budget, the diesels are the next best option with the 35 TDI 2.0-litre diesel good for approximately 50-55 mpg. The least fuel-efficient models are the performance focused RSQ3 with 25 to 30 mpg. Even that is not bad for a performance SUV!
As it is a luxury SUV, it is crucial to inspect an Audi Q3 thoroughly to make sure everything works as intended. Repairs can be on the expensive side as parts and labour could be expensive. One should look for detailed service history, common problems specific to models, and general health of a used Audi vehicle. We know that inspecting a used luxury car in detail is not a walk in the park. There’s also a lot at stake as repairs can cost more than the value of the vehicle. Yikes. However, if you don’t like to sweat it, the AA Vehicle Inspection might just be the perfect solution!
The Audi Q3 generally has a good reputation for reliability, particularly when compared to other luxury compact SUVs. It is built well, but owners have reported electrical issues with sensors, some transmission issues, and turbocharger issues in the 2.0-litre TFSI engines. So, when considering a used Audi Q3, it's important to conduct a thorough inspection, verify the service history, and use a professional inspection service like the AA Vehicle Inspection for complete peace of mind. Being aware of hidden issues could help you make an informed decision and avoid any nasty surprises!
The Audi Q3 has been offered with numerous engine options. The petrol TFSI engines come in 1.4 and 2.0-litre capacity. The popular diesel engine is the 2.0-litre TDI that is punchy and efficient at the same time. Meanwhile, you could also opt for the high output 2.5-litre turbo petrol engines in the RSQ3 performance SUV.
