  Jeep Renegade

  The Renegade has been a hugely successful car for Jeep, bringing the brand into the compact SUV market where it has won the affections of many buyers for its rugged appearance, trademark seven-slot grille and urban-friendly performance. It stands out, because in this segment of the market there are very few cars with genuine character and the Renegade has it in spades. Since its debut in 2014, the Renegade has evolved to offer improved technology, enhanced efficiency, and a broader range of powertrains, including electrified plug-in hybrid variants.

  Volkswagen T-Cross

  Volkswagen’s T-Cross may be the smallest car in the firm’s SUV line-up, but it aims to punch well above its weight thanks to a large boot and a boxy design which brings more interior space. Equipped with a range of efficient petrol engines, the T-Cross may miss out on any form of electrification, but it still does well in terms of efficiency.

  Audi A5

  As its name suggests, the A5 has traditionally occupied the space between the A4 and A6 and been offered in coupe, convertible and five-door coupe Sportback guises. But that changed in 2024, as Audi repositioned it as a BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class competitor, thereby effectively replacing both the A4 Saloon and Avant (estate) and the existing A5 Sportback. Available as a five-door hatchback (although it wears the Saloon name) and as an estate (Avant), the A5 sticks to traditional petrol and diesel power, allowing models like the larger A6 e-tron to focus on offering pure-electric power in the executive car segment.

  Dacia Duster

  The Dacia Duster has been one of the most rugged, no-nonsense and best-value SUVs available in the UK. Traditionally it has had a simple blend of rugged mechanicals, and has grown a loyal following in Britain. But, more recently, the Duster has grown into a more desirable car with better technology and sharper styling. While it isn't as affordable as the first Dusters that arrived in the UK, the current model is an easier car to live with and is more refined, while still sticking true to its value-orientated roots. It's an excellent choice for families who want a sensible SUV that can easily handle family life.
