Convertibles are available in different forms in the used car space. There are 2-seat and 4-seat convertibles, some with a manual fold-down fabric roof, and some with electric roofs that go up and down within seconds. Options are plenty, but the experience largely remains the same. A four-seat convertible will have space for your mates or your family, while a 2-seat convertible keeps things a bit more intimate while offering a lightweight chassis. If your idea of what a convertible - or a cabriolet - car looks like is a classic two-seat roadster, you may be pleasantly surprised by how expansive our convertible collection is.
Not all used convertible cars are the same. There are three main types that you can choose from: hard-top, soft-top and targa (semi-convertible). Some might also consider a hardcore option with no roof at all, like the Caterham Seven.
So, a hard-top convertible has some pros – mainly greater security and less maintenance than a soft-top but it can add weight to the car. With a soft-top though, the material won't be as robust and can require more maintenance. It also means you could be exposed to more external noise and road noise when driving, which could be an issue.
The Targa roof, which is mostly associated with the Porsche 911, is almost a hybrid of soft and hard-top. This is a hybrid between soft and hard top. However, the choices are much more limited. If you prefer the most reliable and affordable convertible out there, the Mazda MX-5 is always the answer. If a luxurious convertible is what you’re after, there are plenty of options for the German carmakers, while there are also high-end convertible supercars if you are shopping for an exotic used car.
All dealers have committed to AA Cars Standards to give you peace of mind.
Vehicle history, MOT, mileage, accident and police reports are all checked - on every vehicle.
