Overall rating 5/5The Kadjar arrived to firm up Renault’s range of SUVs as it slowly transitioned away from MPVs towards more high-riding models. Sharing its underpinnings with the Nissan Qashqai sees the Kadjar boosted by a very successful setup, too.

Overall rating 5/5With plenty of space inside, the Kadjar is targeted at families, but even couples and smaller groups can enjoy this car’s large boot and a good level of equipment. There are also plenty of cubbies and storage options dotted throughout the Kadjar’s cabin which should help to keep it looking as tidy as can be.
The Kadjar shouldn’t be too expensive to run thanks to some very efficient engines, too, and because of the robust interior, it should still look smart after many thousands of miles.
The Renault Kadjar scored a five-star safety rating when Euro NCAP tested it in 2015. It has a full sweep of airbags throughout the cabin, while the rear seats have ISOFIX mounting points on the two outer chairs. It also has a full Electronic Stability Control system for additional reassurance in difficult driving conditions.
Earlier versions of the Kadjar came equipped with 1.2-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines, while 1.5-litre and 1.6-litre diesels were also available. The 1.6-litre diesel can also be found linked to a four-wheel-drive system for extra traction. Later models of the Kadjar can be found with a smaller but very efficient 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine, and you’ll find manual and automatic gearboxes available across the range.
The Kadjar gets cruise control as standard alongside digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity which makes streaming media from your phone much easier. As you climb through the specifications, you’ll find other features such as dual-zone climate control, alloy wheels and keyless entry added to the Kadjar’s list of equipment. However, all versions are well equipped as standard.
When it comes to the 1.2-litre petrol, you can expect to get around 50mpg combined and slightly more on automatic versions. The later 1.3-litre engine can return up to 47.9mpg, too. Diesel engines also return good efficiency, with the 1.5-litre unit bringing up to 74.3mpg, or 65.6mpg if you go for the 1.6-litre engine Kadjar.
Because of its popularity among families, the Kadjar can be susceptible to interior damage and marked plastics, so double-check the cabin of any car that you’re looking at to make sure it isn’t hiding any extra scrapes or bashes. There have been some issues with the infotainment system, too, so give this a thorough test to make sure it’s working properly. If you’d like more information about any car you’re looking at, an AA Vehicle Inspection can help. A trained engineer will take a close look at any car you’re thinking or purchasing and provide a detailed inspection report highlighting any issues.
Yes, aside from a few electrical gremlins the Kadjar has proven to be a reliable option. However, if you’re looking for some extra detail about a used car, then the AA Vehicle Inspection service can help. With it, you’ll get a greater level of information about a used car which could help to flag any potential issues with a vehicle.
Engines for the Renault Kadjar range from a 1.2-litre petrol right the way through to a 1.6-litre diesel.
