Newer Renault Zoe models (from 2019) offer features such as lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and automatic emergency braking on higher trims. However, basic versions can lack important safety kit as standard, and in 2021, Euro NCAP awarded the Zoe zero stars mainly due to the omission of standard side airbags and key driver aids on some models.

The Renault Zoe is fully electric. Most recent versions come with a 52kWh battery, paired with either an R110 or R135 electric motor offering 108 or 135hp respectively. Early models (2012–2019) featured 22kWh or 41kWh batteries with less range and a single lower-output motor.

All Renault Zoes feature a digital instrument display. Later cars get a 7.0-inch touch screen, smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay/Android Auto), cruise control and automatic lights/wipers. Higher trims add sat-nav, wireless charging and larger displays. Entry-level cars sometimes miss out on features like split-folding seats and alloys.

As an electric car, the Renault Zoe’s efficiency is measured in miles per kWh. Depending on battery and model year, real-world range varies from about 100–245 miles per charge. The most recent 52kWh battery models deliver up to 4.3 miles per kWh, with charging costs much less than petrol per mile.

Look for a full service history and check the health of the battery, as some early models had battery leases (rather than outright ownership). Inspect the charging port and all electronic features. For extra reassurance, consider a service by the AA Vehicle Inspection to spot any hidden issues before you buy.

The Zoe’s electric setup means fewer serviceable parts than a petrol or diesel. Still, reviews and used owner reports note a few electrical issues, especially with charging systems and heating units. Renault’s overall reliability record is average, and out-of-warranty repairs can be costly if something goes wrong. Regular servicing and main dealer care help minimise risks.
