Overall rating 5/5Known for its strong performance and all-weather assurance, the RS6 is one of the fastest and most spacious estate cars you can buy. The Audi RS6 is a go-to for anyone who wants performance, comfort and space, all in one refined package. UK drivers love its effortless acceleration and spacious interior, which makes it fun and practical for day-to-day use. The RS6 story goes back two decades, with several generations raising the bar for estate cars. The 2008–2010 RS6 featured a mighty V10 engine before downsizing to a lighter 4.0-litre V8 in 2013–2018 models. The latest RS6 continues to evolve with hybrid power. In this class, few cars rival the RS6 for speed and usability. The Mercedes-AMG E63 Estate comes closest, while the BMW M5 Touring is a key rival. Features that define the RS6 today include quattro four-wheel drive, spacious five-seat comfort, impressive safety standards and plenty of tech – all delivered with understated Audi quality.
The Audi RS6 boasts a range of safety tech, including autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist and traffic-sign recognition. The car is based on the Audi A6, which earned a five-star Euro NCAP score, which is reassuring for families or those covering lots of miles.
Earlier RS6s came with a powerful 5.0-litre V10. More recent versions use a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, offering up to 592bhp and 0–62mph in under four seconds. Newer models also add mild-hybrid tech to further boost efficiency and convenience for town driving.
Modern Audi RS6s include features like a 10.1-inch MMI infotainment display, Audi's Virtual Cockpit, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Three-zone climate control, Matrix LED headlights and a suite of driver-assistance systems boost comfort and ease of driving.
High performance means you pay a price at the pumps. Recent RS6s return around 22mpg according to WLTP figures, but real-world numbers can dip lower, depending on your drive style. Earlier V10 models are thirstier still, which is something to keep in mind if you rack up high mileages.
Check for evidence of regular servicing, especially of engine and suspension components. Watch for worn brakes and tyres. Some models have expensive optional extras, so it's wise to confirm they work as expected. For added peace of mind, consider arranging a full check with The AA Vehicle Inspection service.
The RS6 is generally robust, but running costs and maintenance can be high due to complex engines and technology. Many owners enjoy reliable use when upkeep is regular, but do check service history and look for attentive care from previous keepers.
