Expert Opinion

Sitting between the 520 and 530, the 525 sits in the middle-lower section of the 5 Series range and boasts a similar 2.0 litre diesel to that found in the 520d, but with an added 35bhp. The extra power might not sound like much, but it makes a real difference, and turns the relatively sedate 520 into a more sports-minded saloon. This is especially true in Sport or Sport+ trim, where it is more energetic, dynamic, and able and willing to be pushed. Economy is good on the 525, as is true for all modern BMWs (although it isn't quite as efficient as the 520), while ride is refined and comfortable. The 525 isn't as affordable as the 520, but it is a good option for those looking for a bit more power without the hefty price tag.
