Earlier generations brought classic throaty V12 power, while newer versions focus more on efficiency and advanced hybrid tech, as seen with the latest M760e. Compared to the likes of Mercedes S-Class and Audi A8, the 760 is a true driving machine. Key features include vast rear legroom, first-class materials and a suite of driving aids, including parking sensors, a 360-degree camera and a responsive touchscreen system. Earlier BMW 760 models came with a 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine, delivering seriously impressive power and zero to 60mph in under five seconds. The latest generation is the M760e plug-in hybrid, pairing a powerful six-cylinder petrol engine with electric power. It can still reach zero to 62mph in 4.3 seconds and is a truly smooth ride.
Expect a 14.9-inch touchscreen, a digital instrument display and BMW’s iDrive system as standard in recent 760s. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are present, along with high-quality sound systems and remote services. Rear seat passengers may enjoy extras like the optional Theatre Screen or massage seats, depending on the spec.
Fuel economy greatly depends on model year and engine. Pre-hybrid V12s manage around 20 to 25mpg in mixed use. The latest M760e plug-in hybrid can officially cover up to 48 miles on electric power alone and averages around 250mpg on short trips, though this will drop on longer runs without charging.
