What are the key safety features of the BMW X4?

Tested by Euro NCAP in 2017, the X4 was awarded a full five-star rating, with this BMW SUV doing very well in terms of adult and child occupant protection. Despite being slightly older, the X4 also gets lots of the safety features that we’d expect on a current-day car, including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) and an active bonnet which can cushion the impact for any pedestrian involved in a collision with the car.

What engine options are available with the BMW X4?

You’ll find a four-cylinder diesel engine kicking off the X4’s range of engines, followed by a pair of six-cylinders in the 30d and 35d models. The latter get an automatic gearbox as standard, while the smaller engine is available with both manual and automatic choices. A the top of the range is a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six petrol in the flagship M40i version. All cars come with four-wheel-drive as standard, too.

What are the standard technology and infotainment features in the BMW X4?

Every car gets dual-zone climate control as standard, as well as Bluetooth connectivity and heated front seats. A suite of parking sensors helps to make positioning the X4 at low speeds easier, too. From base-level trim, you’ll find xLine and M Sport specifications to choose from, with the middle grade bringing features such as larger alloy wheels and a lot of chrome detailing. Popular M Sport adds in sportier wheel designs and a dynamic body kit.

What is the fuel consumption of a BMW X4?

The entry-level four-cylinder diesel should return up to 52.3mpg, while more powerful six-cylinder versions should bring between 45 and 47mpg during mixed driving. Range-topping M40i versions will bring a fuel consumption of around 31mpg, again during mixed driving.

What should I check for when buying a used BMW X4 ?

As all versions of the X4 come with quite large alloy wheels, we’d be checking these over for damage and corrosion. Likewise, though it is fitted with many parking sensors we’d still look over the bumpers for car park damage. The large doors are prone to dings, too. The BMW X4 at a glance

The first generation of X4 came on to the UK’s roads in 2014, with this model running until 2018 when it was replaced by the second-generation version. However, these early models still look great and provide a more value-oriented avenue into X4 ownership.

But it’s still got lots of premium touches that help to make the X4 feel quite upmarket, alongside a great range of engines which bring good levels of performance and efficiency. There for a more style-conscious buyer, the X4 has proven to be a hit within the BMW line-up and today it makes for a very eye-catching used purchase.
