Of the few premium hatchbacks on the market, the Audi A3 is a strong contender for being the best. First launched in 1996, it features an immaculately designed cabin and a smooth ride which favours stability over agility. It is the comfort and refinement of the Audi A3 which makes it shine. The 2.0 TDi diesel engine offers an ideal mix of performance and efficiency (all between 50 and 65mpg), while the petrol options up the power output for the performance hungry buyers. If that wasn’t enough, Audi always offered the S3 and the RS 3 for those speed thrills.

As a used purchase, the quality of the cabin, the premium positioning and Audi’s tech laden features list make a strong case for the little A3. But the standout aspect is obviously the affordability factor of a used Audi A3.
