A car I have owned for many years, and which is in top condition. One of the best cars Rover ever produced, and very reliable. Very good performance as well as reasonable fuel consumption.

Good little car apart from its age and the fact it's no longer made. Only available for next-to-nothing now and as an old car of course needing maintenance. New cat every 12-24 months and keep an eye on brakes/pads, exhaust and emissions tests. Mine never garaged, no rust except battery plate/clamp - known issue, silly design, but easily resolved; buy parts on ebay, any garage will fit. One breakdown in 15 years, needed new distributor cap/rotor arm. Bit big as a hatchback so running cost high by comparison, and by comparison with modern engine economy, nonetheless small engine so not a gas guzzler. Engine not bad at all, therefore I always assumed it was a Honda (from rover-honda partnership around the time), but apparently an authentically British motor.

I've had this car for about 3 years now, and mostly it's been very reliable. MOTs have been affordable. Petrol consumption has been been higher than I expected, but then again it's a small engine so it turns faster. Revs therefore generally run higher than my previous car, which had a larger engine. Things like bodywork are a bit plastic, cheap and not very hard-wearing. Odd things have happened to it, like the tailgate door lock seized up for no reason, other than perhaps a bit of light frost. The first thing to go on it was the alternator, which cost me about about £100, which is more than I was happy with. It motors about ok, but is not exactly executive, plus I get the feeling that some drivers of the sportier cars on the road perceive me as fuddy-duddy, judging by their actions. Anyway, that's about it. Be careful of the plastic rear bumper and mudguards when reversing. Plus, parts can be hard to find, as the company was sold off some years back.
