Mitsubishi Mirage 1:2 First Edition CVT
Added: 29th of September 2020
It does what it’s designed to do extremely well. Beforehand, I was sceptical of CVT gearboxes - anyone who drove a DAF variomatic car in the last century will know what I mean - this gearbox, however, is light years away from that era. It’s smooth. The engine, once warmed, is reasonably quiet too and it pulls away surprisingly well. Tyre noise on dual carriageways/motorways is noticeable but not too intrusive. Don’t expect to win many races from the lights, if you’re a 0-62/BHP/lb-ft/power-to-weight ratio statistician, look elsewhere but expect to pay a lot more. (A similarly spec’d model from another mainstream manufacturer checked out at over £20k for example). MPG so far. Best: 59.3 (long, mostly motorway trip), worst: 43 (town) The dealer included a 3 years servicing plan to go with the 5 year/100,00km warranty! Comfortable, relaxing and easy to drive. Clear, easy to use satnav which accurately displays speed. Heated seats for cold mornings, too! No reliability issues so far. Solid build quality. Surprisingly roomy, not bad in the back, either. Bluetooth easy to “pair” with a smartphone! For a retired couple like us, this is the perfect all round package. (without the need for cruise control & heated seats, the “Design” model may suit.) We chose this car because it works well for short distances & is equally at home on the motorway purring along happily at the national speed limit. In my opinion, the core market for this model is for people in the “north of 50 ish” bracket. This may seem to be compartmentalising, generalising, biased, ageist or whatever but, I'm just being practical, I would suspect a younger person would prefer a model with more power & a quicker 0-62 time. I would also like to commend Wiltshire & Sons, the Mitsubishi dealer, excellent service so far! It’s a shame Mitsubishi have decided to stop importing new models into the UK. Invoice price £14999. including fitted extras: DRV-A501W Dashcam; Mudflaps; Doorsill protectors with company emblems; High quality floor mats; High quality luggage area carpets (2) “Get-you-out-of-jail” spare wheel.
