This big-hearted, small family car offers a welcome touch of luxury thanks to sweeping contours, bonnet and grille. The sun shines through the tinted panoramic roof onto an interior that's light and roomy and a dashboard that includes The Peugeot Connect Telematic System to provide an effortless way to listen to music, make calls, get directions and even roadside assistance. The current range includes five door, Station Wagon and Coupe and features Peugeot's e-HDi micro-hybrid technology with Stop & Start producing 70.6 mpg and CO2 of just 98g/km. If you’re looking for safety, consider the 308 – the car earned a highest five-star safety rating in Euro NCAP tests.
First released in 2007, the Peugeot 308 was a step up on the 307, and is one of the best all-round economic family cars on the market. Today it remains one of the most popular vehicles in the Peugeot range. Although a hotly competitive class, the 308 boasts good running costs and a manufacturer name which is consistently growing more reliable. With a spacious interior and quality finish, the 308 is a popular choice with families looking for a comfortable ride.
The introduction of the 308 in 2007 saw Peugeot look to revise their existing 307 model, making it more spacious, economical and safe. Achieving all three, there have been some who have criticised it for not being as much as a redesign as they would have liked, but it remains a strong contender in the small family car class.
Inside there have been many improvements on previous Peugeots, and there is a decided emphasis on quality finishings. The dashboard layout is similarly considered, favouring a mature and practical design, while the cabin holds a relatively good amount of space. While not market leading, passenger and luggage room is sufficient. If you're looking for something bigger however, the estate model (308 SW) is the car for you.
Having such a comfortable interior, the 308 excels on the road during long journeys, particularly on the motorway at high speeds. On smaller roads featuring more twists and turns, the 308 doesn't excel like some of its competitors, but the ride is nonetheless comfortable, if not thrilling. With a maximum score of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test rating however, it is a very safe, responsible family car.
Engine options vary, and there is a choice of 97bhp 1.4 VTi, 118bhp 1.6 VTi, and 1.6 THP petrol models on offer, and 1.6 HDi and 1.6 e-HDi diesels. Both the 1.4 and 1.6 petrol models offer an adequate performance for their class, while the e-HDi version features the best running costs in the range. Coming with a stop/start system in place, this model offers an impressive 70mpg return, but unfortunately falls just the wrong side of 100g/km CO2 emissions meaning it is not road tax exempt.
The 308 is arguably one of the most refined and dynamic family cars that Peugeot has produced, but they do tend to depreciate fairly quickly. While this makes them relatively expensive to buy new, it does mean that they are an attractive used car option.
The Peugeot 308 launched in 2007 and is one of the most refined and affordable family cars in the Peugeot range.
