With its roomy interior and flexible seating, the 5008 is known for practical family-friendly appeal. The Peugeot 5008 is all about stress-free journeys in a spacious interior, whether you’re running errands or loading up the family for a holiday. The first-generation (2009–2016) was an MPV, but since 2017, the 5008 has transformed into a stylish SUV to rival the Skoda Kodiaq, SEAT Tarraco and Kia Sorento. Inside, it offers one of the most flexible cabins in its class: three middle-row seats slide and fold individually, while the third row folds flat to boost boot space. Peugeot’s i-Cockpit features a bold digital dashboard and modern feel, with a wide list of standard kit and safety tech. Comfort and refinement are high, and on the road, the 5008 prioritises smoothness and economy with a range of efficient petrol and diesel engines. It is front-wheel-drive only, with Grip Control available for extra traction.
The Peugeot 5008 comes well equipped for safety. Across the range, you get automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and a full suite of airbags. More recent models include blind-spot monitoring, driver attention alert and all-round parking sensors. The 5008 has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, giving extra reassurance to families.
Used 5008s offer a mix of petrol and diesel engines. Post-2017 SUVs use a 1.2 PureTech or 1.6 PureTech petrol, plus 1.5 and 2.0 BlueHDi diesels. From 2020, the UK range focused on the 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel, dropping the 2.0. Earlier MPV versions (pre-2017) featured 1.6 and 2.0 engines in both petrol and diesel.
Tech is a highlight in the 5008. All models feature at least an 8-inch or 10-inch touchscreen, DAB radio, Bluetooth, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Allure and GT models get navigation, wireless charging, ambient lighting and extra USBs. The digital instrument cluster (i-Cockpit) comes as standard, though the infotainment menu system can take a moment to get used to.
The 5008 is efficient for its size. Diesels return around 45-55mpg in real-world use, while petrol versions typically achieve 35-45mpg. The latest mild-hybrid petrol offers further gains, especially if you're driving in town.
When buying used, check the service history and make sure all seats and electronics work as intended (especially the sliding and folding actions). Older models may see wear on interior trim or infotainment glitches. Consider a The AA Vehicle Inspection for peace of mind – it covers components unique to the 5008, giving you added confidence.
The 5008 scores well for reliability, though it lags just behind the best in class. The engines are proven and service intervals are reasonable. The 5008’s build has improved across generations, and most issues reported tend to be minor electrical niggles rather than major mechanical faults. Overall, it offers dependable, easy ownership for most drivers.
