I migrated from a Premium diesel which was a fantastic car, including frugal fuel consumption - 46mpg lifetime average. Â The 'new platform' model is far more taught, comfortable and handles better. Â However, even as a fairly moderate driver, 32-34mpg is about the best I can get. Â Given that the mild-hybrid battery takes up space underneath the boot floor, the smaller 48 litre full tank offers about 320 miles range - about 220 miles less than the diesel. Â Worse is to come. Â The battery goes too flat to start the car within seven days of no use (even shorter in colder weather). Â It seems this is due to the alarm system. Â This frankly makes it unfit for purpose. Â Leaving the car for a week's holiday makes the carrying of a fully charged jump-start kit a necessity. Â Subaru simply recommends 'use the car for at least 30 mins a week' - in Lockdown? Â A recall to fix this should be a Subaru priority. Â Other than that, it's still a great car.
