The Ford Capri is back – just not as you remember it. Once a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that became a British icon, the Capri name now graces a sleek, all-electric coupe-style SUV. While it’s a bold move away from the original’s performance roots, the 2024 Ford Capri EV offers plenty of modern appeal, blending sharp looks, practical features and impressive tech in a stylish new package. Built on the same MEB platform as the Ford Explorer EV and Volkswagen ID.5, the new Capri brings strong performance and range to the table. You’ll find options ranging from rear-wheel drive to all-wheel drive, with outputs reaching up to around 340–335 hp and 0–62 mph in approximately 5.3 seconds. With a large boot, a smart 14.6-inch touchscreen and 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, the electric Capri is clearly made for modern life – even if it swaps old-school muscle for high-tech refinement.
The new Capri has earned a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating and includes advanced driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, lane centring, traffic sign recognition and emergency steering assist. It’s designed to offer top-tier protection for you and your passengers.
The new Capri is fully electric. The base model features a 282 hp rear motor, while AWD versions add a front motor for a total of 335 hp. You’ll get smooth acceleration and regenerative braking either way. Battery options include 52kWh, 77kWh and 79kWh packs, shared with VW’s electric range, giving you a good balance between cost, range and performance.
You’ll find a large 14.6-inch vertical touchscreen, Ford’s latest SYNC Move infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, over-the-air updates, a hidden ‘My Private Locker’ compartment, and a large centre console. Higher trims also include keyless entry, heated seats and a panoramic sunroof.
As a fully electric car, the Capri doesn’t use fuel. Instead, it offers up to 368 miles of range (WLTP) in rear-wheel drive form. Expect 300–330 miles in real-world driving, depending on conditions. DC fast charging supports speeds up to 185 kW – meaning you can top up from 10–80% in around 30 minutes when using a compatible rapid charger.
The electric Capri is new to market, so used examples will be rare at first. As they appear, check battery health, service records and any signs of software issues. Ensure all infotainment and driver assist systems are working. For peace of mind, The AA Vehicle Inspection is worth considering before you buy.
Early signs are promising, as the Capri uses Ford’s proven EV platform shared with the Explorer EV. With fewer moving parts than a petrol car and robust VW-sourced underpinnings, it should offer dependable day-to-day driving – though time will tell how it holds up long-term.
