Used Car Market Trends | Q3 2026

Used EVs have become considerably more affordable, and there are signs that the long period of falling prices may be starting to ease. That should give buyers greater confidence when considering the switch to electric.

Even if prices are beginning to level off, the falls we’ve seen over the past year mean there are still some very competitively priced used EVs available. Six of the most searched-for models averaged less than £10,000 in Q3, including the Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe, giving buyers plenty of choice at more accessible price points.

Buyer interest also remains encouraging. Page views for the Leaf, Model 3 and Zoe were 18% higher than a year ago, while EVs are accounting for a growing share of searches by fuel type. Greater choice and competitive prices are helping put used EVs onto the shopping lists of more drivers.

It’s not just EV buyers who are seeing good value in the used market. Average prices across the most searched-for hybrids were down on a year ago, as were petrol and diesel cars, giving buyers plenty of choice across all fuel types and budgets.

It is too early to say whether the recent period of falling EV prices has come to an end, but the modest rise recorded in Q3 suggests the market may be starting to stabilise. After the sizeable falls we’ve seen, a more settled market would be a welcome development for buyers and sellers alike.

For buyers, price is only one part of the decision. Anyone considering an EV should check battery health, realistic range and charging options. Whatever the fuel type, inspect the car carefully, check its history and compare condition and specification before buying.

Most searched-for EVs on AA Cars in Q3

The Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3 and Renault Zoe remained the three most searched-for EVs on AA Cars in Q3, in exactly the same order as a year earlier. The average advertised price of a Tesla Model 3 rose 5.0% year-on-year to £19,295, while the Renault Zoe increased 3.2% to £8,255. The Nissan Leaf was virtually unchanged at £8,693, down just 0.4% on a year earlier.

Compared with Q2, prices rose more sharply for two of the three models. The average price of a Model 3 increased 7.0%, while the Leaf rose 6.7%. The Zoe was broadly flat, edging down just 0.3%.

Meanwhile, page views across the three models increased by 18.0% compared with Q3 2025. And EVs in general accounted for 7.9% of searches where buyers specified a fuel type in Q3, up from 5.8% a year earlier. That improving affordability is also reflected in the latest AA UK EV Readiness Index, which found that used EVs averaged just 1% more than comparable petrol cars in Q3, down from a 3% gap in Q2.

The latest available SMMT figures showed 110,761 used battery-electric cars changed hands in Q2 2026, up 67.0% year-on-year. BEVs accounted for 5.5% of used-car transactions, compared with 3.3% a year earlier.

Hybrid price and search data

Hybrid prices moved lower over the year. Across the ten most searched-for hybrids, average prices fell 4.6% year-on-year to £16,363.

Compared with Q2, average prices across the same ten models fell 7.8%, from £17,740 to £16,363. That figure was heavily influenced by the Lexus RX, whose average price fell 30.6% quarter-on-quarter. RX listings were also older on average in Q3, at 10.5 years compared with 8.4 years in Q2. Excluding the RX, average prices across the other nine hybrids fell 3.8%.

The Toyota Yaris remained the most searched-for hybrid on AA Cars and averaged £13,967 in Q3, almost unchanged from £13,985 a year earlier. The Toyota Corolla and Lexus CT were the only other cars in the top ten to record annual price increases, up 1.2% and 2.9% respectively.

At the other end of the ranking, the Nissan Qashqai hybrid fell 13.3% year-on-year to £18,454, and the Toyota Prius fell 13.0% to £8,981. The Kia Sportage was 6.7% cheaper, while the Toyota RAV4 and C-HR fell 5.9% and 5.0%, respectively.

Most searched-for petrol and diesel vehicles on AA Cars in Q3 2026

Petrol and diesel prices also remained below the previous year’s levels. Across the 20 models in the revised ranking, average prices fell 2.3% year-on-year from £11,564 to £11,298. Compared with Q2, average prices across the same 20 models in Q3 fell 2.2%, from £11,552 to £11,298.

The Ford Fiesta remained the most searched-for petrol car on AA Cars, with its average price down 6.3% year-on-year to £7,629. The Volkswagen Transporter remained the most searched-for diesel model and ranked fifth across the revised combined list, averaging £29,737, down 2.9% on the same period a year earlier.

The Nissan Micra recorded the biggest annual price fall among the revised combined top 20, down 11.5% to £6,640. The Nissan Juke fell 8.4%, the Nissan Qashqai 7.8% and the BMW 1 Series 7.7%. Quarter-on-quarter, the Hyundai i10 fell 8.7%, the Micra 7.6% and the Juke 6.6%.

Some models moved the other way. The Volkswagen Golf rose 13.7% year-on-year to £17,224. The average age of Golfs listed also fell from 7.8 years to 6.3 years, so the change in stock mix needs to be considered alongside the price movement. The Vauxhall Astra rose 6.2%, while the Volkswagen Polo was up 3.5%.
