The Model Y is Tesla’s answer to growing demand for electric SUVs. Based on the acclaimed Model 3 saloon, it adds a higher driving position and extra family-friendly interior space. Introduced in 2021, it rivals the BMW iX1, Kia EV6, and Audi Q4 E-Tron, offering a hatchback boot and more headroom than the Model 3. All versions are five-door, five-seat SUVs with large boots and impressive range, featuring quick acceleration, access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, standard safety technology, driver aids, and a large central touchscreen.
For most, the Tesla Model Y will be all the electric car they ever need, with a huge amount of interior space and one of the biggest boots. Once you get past the company’s penchant for committing everything to touchscreen, including the gear selector, it is one of the easiest cars to live with. The recent refresh has vastly improved the exterior styling and now the overall fit, finish and refinement is up there with the more established players. Tesla’s charging network is also fantastic, taking much of the range anxiety out of owning an EV.
