Most Model S cars include multiple airbags, stability control, radar cruise, and automatic emergency braking as standard. Tesla’s Autopilot driver assistance features – such as lane-keep assist and traffic-aware cruise control – are fitted on nearly all UK cars since 2015. Euro NCAP awarded the Model S a full five stars.

The Model S is all-electric, so you won’t find a traditional engine here. Earlier cars (2012–2016) feature single or dual motors paired with 60 to 90kWh battery packs, while later cars are dual-motor as standard with 75, 85, 90, 100, or Performance/‘Plaid’ variants. Power and range improve with newer models.

All models feature a large touchscreen (17-inch in most versions), digital driver display, DAB radio, navigation, Bluetooth and climate control. Many offer ‘over-the-air’ software updates, so features can improve over time. Highly useful driver aids and options like heated seats or premium audio are common, especially on UK cars from 2016 onwards.

As an all-electric car, the Tesla Model S uses no petrol or diesel. Instead, range varies by battery: most used cars deliver between 170 and 260 miles in real-world UK driving. Electricity cost per mile is much lower than for petrol or diesel cars, making the Model S very affordable to run day-to-day.

Carefully check the battery health, infotainment function, and quality of the interior, as some early cars had issues with touchscreen longevity and trim fit. Reliability can be mixed on early models, with most issues affecting minor electronics or trim rather than core electric motors or batteries.
