  • Genesis GV60

    Genesis GV60

    4.2/5

The Genesis GV60 made quite a statement when it arrived in 2022, marking the luxury arm of Hyundai’s first foray into the all-electric SUV segment. Its striking design and impressive specification quickly won attention – particularly given that its flagship Performance model is (even to this day) one of the fastest electric SUVs in its class. Pitched squarely against models like the Volkswagen ID.4, Kia EV6, and Ford Mustang Mach-E, the GV60 is an appealing, if unconventional, choice, offering an impressive electric range, a highly sophisticated cabin, outstanding performance, and refined handling. It’s also a tremendous used buy for those seeking luxury at a reduced price-point.

  • Ford Mustang Mach-E

    Ford Mustang Mach-E

    4.2/5

The Ford Mustang Mach-E raised a few eyebrows when it first appeared in early 2021, using the name of a V8-powered coupé legend in the body of a five-door electric SUV. It was a move to link electric cars to Ford’s performance heritage, and despite the cynicism at the time, it has been a success – especially given that the range-topping Mach-E is actually one of the fastest Fords ever made. The Mach-E was also Ford’s first purpose-built electric SUV for Europe, blending a few iconic Mustang styling cues with its electric technology, and targeted at models such as the Volkswagen ID.4 and Kia EV6. Today, it’s regarded as an appealing choice, with a much longer range than the early cars could offer, a technology-rich cabin, terrific performance and sharp dynamics.

  • Cupra Born

    Cupra Born

    4.0/5

Cupra has come a long way since it split from parent company Seat to become a standalone brand back in 2018. Much of that progression has come from this car - the Born - which arrived as Cupra’s first mass-production electric vehicle. Helped by lots of Volkswagen Group tech, the Born remains a core part of Cupra’s line-up and is a popular option thanks to its sharp design and practical interior.

  • Citroen C3

    Citroen C3

    3.6/5

The French are very good at building affordable small cars, and one of the best in recent times has been the Citroen C3. The third-generation model, built between 2016 and 2024 had affordability at its core thanks to its tried and tested engine range and decent equipment levels. That would be enough to tempt many buyers, but the dependable C3 was topped off with quirky and distinctive styling, plus an extremely comfortable driving experience. A facelift in 2020 sharpened up the styling, while a new entry-level model arrived in 2022 slashing the price and making it one of the UK's most affordable new cars at the time.

  • BYD Seal

    BYD Seal

    4.0/5

BYD has quickly risen to become one of the go-to names in the world of electrified vehicles, despite being a relative newcomer here in the UK. The Seal was one of its first offerings in this country and while being a more traditional saloon car compared with the brand’s mainly SUV-dominated line-up, it’s one which offers lots of range and a very comfortable interior.

  • BMW M4

    BMW M4

    4.4/5

Picking up the mantle from the previous two-door versions of the M3, the BMW M4 quickly became a benchmark for high-performance sports coupés and convertibles when the original F82/F83 models appeared in 2014. The latest M4 is offered in both Coupé and Convertible forms, with a range of variants spanning from the standard M4 to the track-honed M4 CS (or earlier, CSL), which isn’t one for shrinking violets. Under the bonnet lies a potent turbocharged six-cylinder engine, sending power to the rear wheels or, in Competition models, all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive system. From 2023, only xDrive models will been offered, so if you want a rear-drive-only car, you’ll need to choose a used one. For driving enthusiasts, the M4 is both a versatile performance car, and a highly desirable one at that.
