The Genesis GV60 made quite a statement when it arrived in 2022, marking the luxury arm of Hyundai’s first foray into the all-electric SUV segment. Its striking design and impressive specification quickly won attention – particularly given that its flagship Performance model is (even to this day) one of the fastest electric SUVs in its class. Pitched squarely against models like the Volkswagen ID.4, Kia EV6, and Ford Mustang Mach-E, the GV60 is an appealing, if unconventional, choice, offering an impressive electric range, a highly sophisticated cabin, outstanding performance, and refined handling. It’s also a tremendous used buy for those seeking luxury at a reduced price-point.

As a result, the GV60 represents strong value, thanks to its equipment, performance, and low running costs – but there is a depreciation risk if you buy a new one.
The Genesis GV60 is exclusively electric, with buyers able to choose between a single-motor (Premium and Sport) and dual-motor (Sport Plus/Performance) setup, powered by a 77.4 kWh battery. Power ranges from 226bhp (Premium RWD) to a mighty 483bhp with Boost mode engaged in the Performance AWD – though this does have a big impact on range. All deliver brisk acceleration – the entry-level Premium RWD reaches 0–62 mph in just 7.8 seconds, while the Sport Plus AWD drops this to as little as 4.0 seconds, with instant torque from the electric motors.
Official WLTP ranges are strong, with the Premium RWD capable of up to 321 miles on a single charge, and the Performance AWD managing up to 289 miles. Rear world figures will be slightly below this in most cases, but it’s nevertheless a good headline number, and all are compatible with fast charging. All GV60s feature regenerative braking that allows for one-pedal driving, too.
The Genesis GV60 is remarkably easy to live with, despite its performance credentials. Around town, the near-silent electric motors and instant torque make city driving effortless, while the raised driving position and slim pillars provide excellent visibility. Manoeuvring is made easy thanks to light steering, parking sensors, and a reversing camera. On faster roads and motorways, the GV60 feels stable, quiet, and refined. Road and wind noise are expertly suppressed, making for a serene cruising experience. Performance models add a sharper edge, with firmer suspension and astonishing acceleration when you need it.
The GV60 offers an appreciable balance between comfort and agility, exactly as we’d expect from a premium electric SUV from the likes of BMW or Audi. The battery pack’s location gives a low centre of gravity, benefitting stability and handling. The steering is precise and responsive, lending confidence through bends, while the ride remains composed and comfortable on most surfaces – though larger wheeled models do have a tendency to transmit sharper bumps through into the cabin. Body control is impressive, and the GV60 feels agile despite its size and weight. The Performance AWD is especially amusing, with strong grip, quick steering, and effortlessly rapid acceleration. Step inside the GV60 and you’re greeted by a contemporary, spacious cabin that’s easily a match for premium rivals. A minimalist dashboard houses a pair of 12.3-inch digital displays, forming both the instrument cluster and infotainment system, with haptic controls and ambient lighting. Materials feel like they’re high quality throughout, with soft-touch surfaces and leather or vegan-friendly upholstery, depending on trim level and customer preference. The panoramic glass roof enhances the airy feel, while passengers front and rear benefit from generous headroom and legroom. Isofix points are fitted to the outer rear seats, and rear visibility is generally good for an SUV coupe, albeit limited by the design. Seats are plush and comfortable, designed for long-distance comfort.
The GV60 was designed with family practicality in mind. It offers a 432-litre rear boot that expands to 1,550 litres with the back seats folded down. While a few rivals have slightly larger luggage areas, the GV60 adds a convenient front trunk (frunk), perfect for charging cables or small bags. The rear seats split and fold almost (but not quite) flat, allowing for flexible cargo space. A low loading lip and powered tailgate (on higher trims) make loading and unloading straightforward. There’s ample interior storage too, with cupholders, door bins, and a spacious centre console, plus a wireless charging pad for your phone.
Every GV60 comes well equipped. Even base models include dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and steering wheel, full smartphone integration, navigation, keyless entry and start, adaptive cruise control, and a comprehensive array of driver assistance technologies. Higher-spec models add a premium Bang & Olufsen sound system, hands-free powered tailgate, 360-degree camera, augmented reality navigation, and additional luxury features. Over-the-air software updates ensure the infotainment remains current and adds features, keeping the car up to date.
The GV60 range consists of several well-equipped trims: Premium (RWD), Sport (AWD), and Performance (AWD). The entry-level Premium trim includes 19-inch alloys, LED lighting, a pair of 12.3-inch screens, and the full suite of connectivity and driver assistance tech. Dual-zone climate, adaptive cruise, keyless entry, and a reversing camera are also standard. Sport models upgrade to larger wheels, powered tailgate, upgraded upholstery, panoramic glass roof, and an enhanced sound system. The flagship Performance model adds unique 21-inch alloys, adaptive suspension, uprated brakes, and further bespoke styling elements. A comprehensive suite of advanced safety features comes as standard, including multiple airbags, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, and traffic sign recognition. Initial reliability reports are promising, and the GV60 is backed by a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, plus eight years or 100,000 miles cover for the battery.
As a pure electric vehicle, the Genesis GV60 emits zero tailpipe emissions. Efficiency sits around 3.0–3.8 miles per kWh, translating to a real-world range of 230–300 miles, depending on the model and driving style. Charging is rapid: with a 350 kW ultra-rapid charger, the GV60 can recharge from 10–80% in as little as 18 minutes. Home charging on a 7.4 kW wall-box takes roughly 11 hours for a full charge. The GV60 qualifies for the lowest first-year road tax (VED) rate of £10, but the Expensive Car Supplement means years two to five cost £620 annually, reverting to £195 per year after that. Insurance groups range from 37 to 44, reflecting the car’s luxury status and performance. Servicing is required every two years or 18,000 miles, with Genesis offering fixed-price service plans and an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty for peace of mind.
