Overall rating 4/5The latest Citroen C3 was launched back in 2017 and, given its low starting price as new, means that it represents a tremendously well-priced option on the used market. With a funky new look and a more tech-filled cabin than in previous models, the Citroen C3 remains a good option for drivers after a low-cost car with character.
Rivalling the likes of the Ford Fiesta, the Citroen C3 is definitely on the more compact end of the spectrum, so could be great as a second car or for someone looking to lower their driving costs.
The Citroen C3 gets a full suite of airbags throughout the cabin, while speed and lane-keep assistance features are included as standard on all models. ISOFIX points for the two outermost rear seats provide a spot to mount child seats while a standard-fit seatbelt reminder will make sure that everybody on board is kept secure.
You’ll find 1.2-litre petrol engines available underneath the bonnet of the Citroen C3, with both turbocharged and naturally aspirated versions there. The latter will be cheaper to maintain, though the former brings added performance. In terms of diesel, there are 1.5- and 1.6-litre options to choose from.
Citroen C3 models get a good suite of standard equipment including cruise control, air conditioning and front electric windows. Step up through the grades and you’ll find more features being added, including parking sensors, heated mirrors and alloy wheels. Keep an eye out for ‘Nav’ edition cars. As the name suggests, these models came equipped with satellite navigation as standard.
Standard petrol versions of the Citroen C3 will prove economical and can return up to 60mpg. Expect to see this drop to around 49.4mpg if you opt for automatic gearbox versions instead. Turbocharged 1.2-litre versions, meanwhile, should bring up to 53.3mpg. Switch to diesel power and you could see up to 67.7mpg combined though, again, these figures will be slightly lower on automatic cars.
The Citroen C3 is a car which is commonly found driving around town and, as a result, used examples can be prone to car park damage and kerbed alloy wheels on those which have them equipped. A popularity among first-time drivers means that you should make sure that the clutch on any used example you’re looking at is working as it should, too. If you’d like a more experienced eye cast over the car you’re considering, then an AA vehicle inspection can help. Check out our variety of services today to see which one could work for you.
The Citroen C3 has proven to be a reliable choice among drivers, and you can check out our owner review page to see any niggles or issues which may have arisen during a person’s time with a car. Again, an AA vehicle inspection can help to make your decision even easier by flagging any potential issues with a car before you buy.
The Citroen C3 is available with 1.2-litre petrol engines as well as 1.5- and 1.6-litre diesels.
