The British Motor Show, which was held at the ExCel centre in London last year, was the UK’s number one consumer show, according to its organisers.
Figures published by auditors ABC today reveal that a total of 415,356 people attended the show last year, comprising 393,889 visitors, 68 per cent of whom were paying customers, with the remainder using complimentary tickets.
Research conducted by imie, the organisers of the 2006 event, also suggests that there was significant international interest in the show, with 23 per cent of the journalists in attendance coming from overseas.
Rob Mackenzie, co-managing director of imie, said: "The motor show is officially the largest consumer exhibition in the UK by the number of audited visitors and square meterage, and what a great show it was.
"As well as a dozen global launches, our audited figures prove we hosted 205 exhibiting companies in 85,195 square metres of indoor and outdoor exhibition space."
Mr Mackenzie said that work was already underway for the 2008 show.
The exhibition will be held at the ExCel arena once again and will run from July 23rd to August 3rd 2008.
