Despite the continuing problems facing the motoring industry in the current economic climate, strong sales of the Volkswagen Golf have helped the manufacturer off to a decent start in 2009.
Over the first quarter of the year the Volkswagen Group has seen its global market share rise to 7.4 per cent.
The group witnessed a decent share growth in western Europe, rising to 20.6 per cent, with increases registered in almost all individual car markets.
Meanwhile, significant growth was seen in Russia, where sales rose by 14.1 per cent despite the overall market in the country falling by 39 per cent.
Detlef Wittig, executive vice president of group sales and marketing at the Volkswagen Group, said: "Our young and efficient model range with some 180 different vehicles is paying off.
"Our portfolio contains exactly the cars which are in demand with customers."
Among the exterior colours that a motorist can choose from when purchasing a Volkswagen Golf are Tornado Red, Candy White and Black.
All these colours are available on S, SE and GT offerings.
