Expert Opinion

First released in 1997, the Volvo C70 is a chic coupé and convertible, which unlike much of the rest of the boxy, sensible Volvo range, is good to look at and fun to drive. Star of the range is the T5, the five-cylinder petrol option, which boasts an impressive 0-62mph sprint time of just over seven seconds. A better mix of performance and cost are the diesel options however, the D3 and D5, which are both 2.0 litre and develop either 148bhp or 258bhp respectively. Handling can suffer slightly from being a touch on the heavy side, which does pit it behind some of its more able rivals. But, being comfortable, with a beautifully designed folding roof mechanism and Volvo's impeccable safety rating, it is one of the most sensible - and exciting - coupés on the market.
