Alexander Gur is a Roadside Patrol at The AA, with more than 20 years of hands-on experience across garage and roadside roles, as well as a strong personal interest in performance cars.

Alexander has worked in the motor trade for more than two decades. His background includes 5 years of garage experience, 7 years with Green Flag, and 8 years with The AA. Over that time, he has built strong practical knowledge of vehicle faults, roadside repairs, and day-to-day maintenance across a wide range of makes and models.

His experience in both workshop and roadside environments gives him a clear understanding of the problems drivers face in real-world conditions. That hands-on background helps him offer straightforward, experience-based insight from a technician’s point of view.

Outside of work, Alexander has a particular interest in Volkswagen Group cars. He enjoys going to the gym and working on his own vehicles, including an Audi S3 and a Volkswagen Golf Edition 35.

Toyota Aygo X

Toyota’s decision to axe the Aygo in favour of the Aygo X back in 2022 represented a changing of the guard for the Japanese brand. The outfit was turning its back on one of the cars which helped establish it in the UK after deciding that the small city cars that once dominated UK roads were losing favour to taller and more imposing crossovers. The Aygo X looks to blend the nimble practicality of a traditional A-segment hatchback with the additional space of a compact crossover. What the Japanese brand has come up with is one of the most distinctive city cars that money can buy.

Mazda MX5

Since the original model transformed the sports car market in 1989, the Mazda MX-5 has become a global icon, often replicated, but arguably never bettered. The fourth-generation ND model, introduced in 2015, is as sharp and engaging as the MX-5 has ever been, and although it’s getting on a bit now, it still has a hugely enthusiastic following and it’s still a terrific car.

Honda HR-V

These days, there are few segments more crowded and competitive than the compact SUV market. It seems like every carmaker is having a go at cracking this lucrative sector. And Honda’s trying to do the same with Honda HR-V. In a busy segment, it still manages to stand out for its clever interior layout, compact footprint, and smooth hybrid powertrain. While it may not be as sporty as others, the HR-V does represent a decent all-round package.
