The MG HS has made a real name for itself as a practical, well-equipped SUV that keeps costs low without cutting out key comforts. Launched in 2019 and updated for 2023, it’s designed with families in mind. Think flexible interiors, strong safety credentials and easy-to-drive feel. There's a decent amount of boot space – 507 litres, which expands to 1,484 litres when you fold the rear seats. Although not the largest in its class, it's respectable. You’ll find petrol and plug-in hybrid versions, both offering generous equipment as standard. You can expect touchscreen infotainment, advanced safety systems and comfort, even in entry-level trims. While its road manners and cabin finish can't compete with pricier rivals, its seven-year warranty, value and usability make it a tough bargain to beat.
When buying a used MG HS, start with the service history. The warranty is a big part of the car’s appeal, so check it has been serviced at MG on time and schedule. The newer 2024-onwards model is the better pick if budget allows, as it feels more polished than the first-generation car. Check the 12-volt battery, infotainment, reversing camera, parking sensors, tyres and brakes before buying.
