Skoda produces 500,000th Octavia

Skoda has announced that the 500,000th version of the Octavia, its best-selling model at the moment, has been produced at its Mlada Boleslav plant in the Czech Republic.

The milestone model was a silver Octavia RS with a two-litre petrol engine.

Horst Muhl, production and logistics director for Skoda Auto, said that the achievement is the result of three years’ work and praised the manufacturer’s whole factory network for their efforts.

"I wish to point out that besides Mlada Boleslav, with 389,697 Octavias produced, those who have helped to achieve this milestone of 500,000 Octavias also include the plants in Vrchlabi and Aurangabad, India (105,080 and 5,223 vehicles, respectively)," Mr Muhl said.

"We needed 26 months to manufacture this number of vehicles – the very first vehicle was an Octavia produced on February 3rd 2004 in Vrchlabi."

The Octavia was launched in its new form in the spring of 2004, with the Combi and Combi 4×4 following later in the year. In 2007 the line has been extended further with the introduction of the Scout model.

Skoda points out that the new Octavia has been voted car of the year in the Czech Republic, Finland and Great Britain among others.
