Overall rating 4/5The Skoda Karoq is a mid-sized SUV, tailor-made for everyday life in the UK – whether you’re tackling the school run, the supermarket or a week away. Introduced in 2017 as the successor to the popular Yeti, the Karoq quickly became a stalwart of the Skoda range. Over time, updates have brought improved tech, efficient engines and, in 2022, a refreshed design. Compared to similar models like the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage or Seat Ateca, the Karoq offers more space and smoother handling over rough roads. Features such as the flexible VarioFlex seating or its solid infotainment system make this Skoda a confident all-rounder today, ideal for those seeking a combination of comfort, roominess and low-stress ownership.
All Skoda Karoq models come with a roster of safety features, including autonomous emergency braking and multiple airbags as standard. The Travel Assist pack takes things up a notch, with adaptive cruise control, lane and traffic jam assist, and traffic-sign recognition.
The Karoq offers both petrol and diesel engines to suit your motoring needs. You'll find 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0-litre turbo petrol engines and 1.6 or 2.0-litre diesels, covering a BHP range of 115 right up to 187. Gearing can be automatic or manual, with four-wheel drive models available too.
Every Karoq comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, incorporating DAB radio and Bluetooth. Many have sat-nav, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while a digital instrument cluster and large display ensure a straightforward, user-friendly setup for drivers and passengers.
Fuel consumption depends on engine and specification. The 1.0-litre petrol returns approximately 44-48mpg, while the 1.5-litre petrol averages around 41-45mpg. Diesels, such as the 2.0 TDI, can see figures up to 59mpg in mixed driving. No hybrid versions are available if you're looking for a green option.
Check for wear in the interior, especially if the car has been used as a family workhorse. Look for bumper scuffs as a result of a lack of parking sensors on low-spec models, and ensure there are no outstanding recalls. For extra reassurance, consider booking The AA Vehicle Inspection service on your potential buy.
The Karoq enjoys a solid reliability record. Petrol engines have been especially dependable, with most owners reporting few serious faults apart from occasional annoyances with the infotainment system. Servicing is competitively priced, and Skoda’s dealer network is generally well regarded for its attentive customer support.
