There’s something deeply appealing about a fast estate car, and the Audi RS6 is one of the all-time icons. Recently retired and in its fourth generation, the Audi RS6 Avant had become synonymous with combining supercar performance and everyday usability – with luxury and practicality meeting near-supercar levels of performance. There’s only one engine option – a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 with mild hybrid technology, paired to an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive. The RS6 Avant rivals the likes of the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Estate, BMW M5 Touring and Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo.

Renault Zoe

The Renault Zoe was once Europe’s top-selling EV, and for good reason. It offered a fantastic mix of affordability, zippy real-world performance and reasonable range in a package that has moved with the times. Fast forward, and Renault decided to replace the Zoe with its retro-inspired R5 E-Tech model in 2024, ushering in a new era of bold styling and, admittedly, much better handling, performance and interior technology. Regardless of this, the Zoe remains a brilliantly affordable EV that, in later models at least, can deliver almost 240-miles and offer a comfortable interior that’s perfectly capable of dashing around town or making frequent trips to the shop.

Cupra Terramar

The Terramar is the newest SUV to arrive in Cupra’s range – a marque that is still a relatively new brand to UK buyers. Cupra was hived off from its Seat parent a few years ago, and is now a standalone name within the Volkswagen Group. It's positioned as an upmarket performance brand, but, with cars like the Terramar, it's clear that the Spanish upstart marque still has an eye on the family market. The Terramar is closely related to the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan, and focuses on offering space and versatility, along with efficient powertrains, all wrapped up in a sporty-styled SUV package.

Kia XCeed

The XCeed is one of the older models in Kia’s line up, having been part of the Korean firm’s range since 2019. With increased ride height, bold SUV styling, and a focus on comfort and value, the Xceed appeals to both urban and extra-urban drivers who want a car with a chunky, bold presence and the ability to tackle challenging road conditions. It competes with models such as the Ford Focus Active, Mazda CX-30, and Hyundai Kona, often providing more equipment and longer warranty coverage for the price.

Suzuki Swift

The fourth-generation Suzuki Swift is an appealing choice for those seeking a well-equipped, high-value supermini that’s a lot of fun to drive. It doesn’t have the depth of choice offered by some rivals, but that’s very much in line with the Japanese brand’s no-nonsense approach to specification and pricing. If reliable, efficient urban motoring with a dash of style is what you’re after, then the latest Swift builds on the model’s established formula. It’s particularly popular with younger drivers and is a great value alternative to models such as the Volkswagen Polo, Nissan Micra, Renault Clio, Toyota Yaris, and Hyundai i20.

BMW i4

BMW’s answer to an electric executive saloon is predictably compact, sporty and positively dripping with the latest in-car technology. In essence, it’s an electrified version of the successful BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, complete with four-doors and a hatchback tailgate. All versions boast an excellent and reliable all-electric range, classy interiors and premium styling. But perhaps more importantly, they feel like they have been engineered by a company with over 100 years of experience making excellent drivers’ cars.
