Fabia awarded low insurance rating

The entry-level version of the Skoda Fabia has been awarded the lowest possible insurance grouping by the Association of British Insurers.

When the 1.2-litre, 60bhp Fabia 1 arrives in showrooms on May 17th, it will be available in insurance group one.

The highest insurance grouping will be given to the top of the range 1.9-litre Fabia 3, which will be priced in the group four bracket.

Skoda’s new Fabia range will be on sale for prices ranging from £7,990 for the entry-level model to £13,015 for the Fabia 3. Among the standard equipment for the line are electric front windows, ABS brakes and a CD player.

The Fabia line-up was first launched in 2000 and since then more than 1.5 million versions of the car have rolled off the line, with over 130,000 going to owners here in the UK.

Skoda will be hoping that the new version of its popular model will attract some more awards, following the Auto Express ‘car of the year’ accolade given to the Octavia this year. The manufacturer also came top in the 2006 Top Gear customer satisfaction survey.
