Cupra Ateca

Cupra’s Ateca is the kind of car for people who want an SUV with a little bit of extra character. While its basing on the standard Seat Ateca means that it’s got all of those must-have practicality boxes ticked, the usual Cupra extras help to make this car more exciting both inside and out. Compared to the updated Volkswagen T-Roc R, Volkswagen Tiguan R, and Mini Countryman JCW, the Cupra Ateca still remains a sensible option as a used buy.

Audi A1

The original Audi A1 broke the mould when it was launched in 2010. Here was a compact car which brought the look and feel of a far more upmarket model. It was quickly snapped up by buyers, and when the second-generation A1 arrived eight years later - and is the car that we’re looking at here - it elevated things with even better in-car quality, a more refined driving and lots of features that you’d usually find on a car costing three times as much.

Alfa Romeo Tonale

MG MG5

The MG5 was the first electric estate car in the UK, way before the likes of the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Electric, BMW i5 Touring, and Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer. It quickly found favour amongst those who wanted an EV with practical touches but didn't desire an SUV. The MG5 traded on offering high levels of value for money and an update in late 2022 saw the car substantially modernised styling inside and out, and improved the on-board tech. However, it was taken off sale in 2025 with MG feeling that the smaller MG4 hatchback and new MG5SV SUV made the MG5 surplus to requirements.

SEAT Leon

The Seat Leon competes in the very traditional family hatchback class, and has long offered an appealing blend of sharp styling and solid Volkswagen Group mechanicals. More than that, the Leon manages to have a greater focus on driving enjoyment compared to its Skoda Octavia and Volkswagen Golf sisters. The latest fourth-generation car, launched in 2020, is the largest Leon yet, and successfully blends good looks, fine driving dynamics, and modern tech in a very affordable package.
