About Audi Q2

SUVs are absolutely instrumental to Audi’s range, and following on from the Q7, Q5 and Q3 came the brand’s smallest ‘rugged’ model – the Q2. Debuting at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, first customer cars arrived later in the year. Bringing familiar Audi SUV styling traits, and the brand’s renowned high-quality cabin in a far more compact package, the Q2 is now one of Audi’s most popular models.

There haven’t been a significant number of changes, but in 2019 Audi’s sportier SQ2 landed, while a mid-life refresh saw slight styling changes for the Q2, along with enhanced standard equipment.

Why buy a used Q2?

As Audi’s most compact SUV, there’s a lot to be said for its ability to combine the brand’s well-loved chunky styling into a smaller and more accessible package. It’s also got plenty of style on its side, with its bold grille and sharp LED lights giving it an impressive amount of street presence. Choose sportier-looking S line and Black Edition models if you want extra style too.

Another reason to choose the Q2 is for its interior. While plenty of rivals in this class cut corners when it comes to quality, no such complaint can be labelled at this Audi, which feels just as well built as the brand’s pricier models – even if the material quality isn’t always top notch. The cabin is modern and classy, while if you want something with a bit of extra style, there is the option to have dashboard panels matching the Q2’s exterior.

It also scores plenty of points when it comes to interior space, as despite being Audi’s smallest SUV, there’s still a decent amount of room on offer thanks to its clever packaging. Adults should be able to sit comfortably in the rear, while the 405-litre boot offers plenty of room, and more than family hatchbacks like Audi’s own A3.

There’s also a broad range of engines to choose from – ranging from small 1.0-litre petrol options all the way up to the powerful SQ2 model, which is capable of out-accelerating some sports cars. Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system is also available on more powerful versions, while efficient diesel engines will appeal to those looking for lower running costs – the 30 TDI engine is able to return up to 60mpg with CO2 emissions of just 123g/km.

Q2 updates

Here’s a short history of the Audi Q2, which dates back to 2016.

Audi unveiled the Q2 as its smallest SUV at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, bringing a sharp design and the infotainment and assistance systems from Audi’s pricier models.
The Q2 range was expanded in 2017 to include a 187bhp 2.0-litre petrol – this being the first petrol-powered model to be available with quattro all-wheel-drive.
In 2019 Audi introduced a powerful SQ2 model, which uses the same 296bhp 2.0-litre petrol unit as the brand’s S3 hot hatchback.
In 2020 the Q2 received a mid-life update, gaining slight styling tweaks and more equipment. The SQ2 received similar changes in 2021.

Audi offers five main trim levels on the Q2, with equipment highlights as follows.

Audi Q2 Technik

What should I look for when buying a used Q2?

The large diamond-cut alloy wheels are quite easy to kerb, so look out for any damage as it could be quite pricey to repair.
The Q2’s 1.5-litre petrol engine (badged as the 35 TFSI) is sometimes jerky and not very responsive. On a test drive make sure that it feels smooth and powerful enough.
Be aware of low-mileage diesel models, as frequent shorter trips can clog the diesel particulate filter, potentially causing further issues down the line.
