  • Peugeot E-208

    Peugeot E-208

    3.8/5

Peugeot’s 208 supermini struck all of the right chords when it was launched in 2019, packing unmistakably French, futuristic styling with just enough nods to the past to ensure it resonated with fans of the original 205 and other classic hatchbacks from the French marque. What’s more, it arrived as the E-208, the all-electric offering, with two battery options. There is a 50kWh battery (with around 46kWh usable) that delivers up to 226 miles of WLTP range and 136hp, or a larger 51kWh battery (with around 48kWh usable) that increases output to 156hp and extends the WLTP range to a maximum of 268 miles.

  • Dacia Sandero Stepway

    Dacia Sandero Stepway

    4.1/5

First arriving in 2013 and entering its third, most stylish generation in 2021, the Dacia Sandero Stepway has become a byword for affordable, no-nonsense motoring in the UK. The Stepway is a crossover-inspired version of the regular Sandero hatchback, with a raised ride height, and chunky looks, wrapped up in a package that prioritises value and practicality for British families and drivers on a budget.

  • BMW X4

    BMW X4

    3.9/5

First launched in 2014, the BMW X4 established itself as a pioneer of the premium SUV-coupé segment, blending the practicality of an SUV with the sporty lines of a coupé. The latest generation, launched in 2018 and refreshed in 2022, brings sharper design cues, advanced technology, and a broader range of efficient, electrified powertrains. The X4 is positioned as a stylish, upmarket alternative to traditional family SUVs rivalling the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé and the Audi Q5 Sportback. However, its engaging driving dynamics and premium, driver-centric interior make it feel more performance-oriented than those models.

  • Hyundai I30

    Hyundai I30

    4.0/5

Honest and reliable, the Hyundai i30 is what you’d call a ‘traditional’ hatchback. While it might not have the glitzy styling of its crossover cousins, the i30 is all about intuitive design and zero-fuss motoring which, for many people, could make it the ideal everyday car.

  • Fiat 600

    Fiat 600

    3.5/5

Fiat might be best-known for its 500 city car - both classic and modern versions - but for some people, the pint-sized model isn’t the best option, particularly for those who need more space. Enter the 600. It’s a natural successor to the 500X crossover, but with more technology, a greater focus on space and more grown-up driving dynamics, the 600 has been designed to handle any shortcomings that its predecessor suffered from.

  • Fiat 500

    Fiat 500

    3.9/5

The Fiat 500 is one of the UK’s most beloved city cars, having thoroughly captured the imagination of British buyers since its rebirth in 2007. It went on to enjoy a remarkable 17-year production run before being replaced by a new version that looked almost the same. A stylish runabout with an instantly recognisable profile, the 500 has evolved over the years, with the early examples using tried-and-tested Fiat engines while later models got the TwinAir engine and Fiat’s 1.0-litre Firefly engine, along with a mild-hybrid systems.
