Toyota Land Cruiser

Built in the toughest tradition and very much in the mould of Land Cruisers before it, right down to its unashamedly retro styling, the latest model is a robust and rugged 4x4 and will appeal to those who may be looking at an Ineos Grenadier or Mercedes GL, as well as the Land Rover Defender. It’s more workmanlike than most of those rivals, though, and that’s no bad thing, as its go-anywhere nature is very much core to the Land Cruiser’s appeal.

Ford Focus

The Ford Focus has been providing reliable and good-looking transport to the masses for decades, which is why it was so surprising when Ford announced that it would be discontinued in 2025. However, the Focus remains a great all-rounder, while later mild-hybrid cars bring added efficiency. It is also one of the most sensible used cars you can buy today.

BYD Dolphin

Mercedes Vito

It may be based on a van, but the Mercedes Vito Tourer is a great choice of car for larger families, with excellent build quality and car-like driving characteristics. Launched in 2014 and heavily refreshed in 2021, the Vito Tourer has become a popular choice not only for larger families, but also for businesses such as taxis and airport transfer services, which need maximum space, comfort, and flexibility. Rivals include the Ford Transit Tourneo Custom, Volkswagen Transporter Shuttle, Citroen Spacetourer and Vauxhall Vivaro Life, although few of these can match the space on offer with the Vito.

Following on from the Born, this car - the Tavascan - has been developed to showcase all of Cupra’s flair for style and character in an electric vehicle with a decent range and lots of technology. It thrives in a competitive space that comprises of stylish SUVs such as the Polestar 2 and the Ford Capri.
