Mercedes EQB

There is limited choice when it comes to electric vehicles that can comfortably seat seven. Both Kia and Hyundai now offer enormous seven-seat SUVs, but Mercedes-Benz was arguably first to with its EQB in 2021. Based on the petrol-powered GLB, the EQB swaps its engine for a 66.5kWh usable battery pack (70.5kWh gross), a 400V electrical architecture and either a single motor or a dual-motor option in the EQB 300 4MATIC.

Mazda 2

The Mazda 2 shows that you can still have a ‘grown-up’ feel in a compact car. With its refined on-road manners, the Mazda 2 is comfortable and easy to drive, while its range of engines provides the 2 with a decent level of performance alongside efficiency that will make this car very cheap to run. The 2’s on-sale run ended in 2025, but there’s still plenty of good availability for this car on the used market today.

Mercedes EQE

The Mercedes-Benz EQE sits at the very top of the EV pile, promising S-Class levels of luxury in an electric format. It rivals the likes of the BMW i5 and the Polestar 2, while it is offered with a large 90.6kWh usable battery pack (96kWh gross in earlier long-range variants) and is available with several different power outputs, ranging from 292hp in newer rear-wheel-drive 300 models to 625hp in the range-topping, all-wheel-drive Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ models.

SEAT Ateca

Seat knew that it had to get into the SUV market and, in 2016, it did just that with the Ateca. Aimed squarely at family drivers, the Ateca arrived with a practicality-focused interior that boasted lots of space and storage. While created with the look of an off-roader, the truth is that the Ateca is designed primarily for on-road driving. It’s good news, then, that this SUV drives and handles well when it’s on the tarmac.

Inkeeping with the demand for higher-riding models, the DS3 comes equipped with both hybrid and electric options, while inside, there’s plenty of tech to make everyday driving easier.

Ford Capri

The Capri has taken a little longer to be accepted, partly because it’s not entirely a Ford. Under the bold body is a Ford-tuned derivative of Volkswagen’s MEB platform; the result of a joint venture agreement between the two companies where Ford shared its van expertise with VW in exchange for some help with its electric cars. The Capri positions itself as an upmarket, versatile alternative to the more bulky and upright SUVs in the growing EV segment, targeting both young families and more enthusiastic drivers with its blend of style, space, and performance. It competes with rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.5 and Tesla Model Y, offers engaging driving dynamics and impressive electric range.
