Produced between 1986 and 2003, the Vauxhall Omega is a family executive which was at one time voted the European Car of the Year (1987), but was later overshadowed by increasingly fierce competition. Today it has dated substantially, and while it is far away from the quality presented by the impressive Insignia, it offers an affordable, reliable alternative. Space inside is ample, as is the boot, while a refined and smooth ride means that it remains comfortable at all times. There are a number of petrol engines on offer, but the best is arguably the 2.2 litre diesel, which offers a bit more substance than the remaining options. Reliability and run costs aren't bad, which means that, even if the Omega isn't the most desirable, it is at least dependable.
