One of the most stylish cars around, the Mini Cooper is a clever mix of retro British design and modern finishings, merging past and present better than perhaps any other car on the roads. While this undoubtedly counts for much of why it is remains so popular (the 2,000,000th model rolled out of the Oxford production plant in 2011 with David Cameron at the wheel), it also has much to do with the fact that it is sporty, nimble and comfortable; as responsive and fun as a go kart but as luxurious and refined as anything in its new owner's (BMW), range.
When buying a used MINI Cooper, start with the service history and an online vehicle check for mileage discrepancies, insurance write-off history or outstanding finance. Older 2007 to 2014 cars need careful checks for timing chain noise, oil use and signs of poor maintenance. On a test drive, listen for suspension knocks, check the clutch, make sure the steering feels tight, and test the infotainment, windows and central locking.
