Overall rating 4/5Best known for its powerful V6 engine and distinctive race car looks, the 370Z appeals to drivers who crave an enjoyable, engaging drive. Launched in 2009 to replace the 350Z, it ran until 2020 with minimal changes, featuring a strong 3.7-litre V6 engine. While rivals like the BMW Z4 and Audi TT may offer more comfort and tech, the 370Z stands out for value and timeless appeal. All models come with generous standard equipment including keyless engine starting, automatic climate control, and xenon headlights, combining reliability, affordability, and a charismatic V6 suitable for enthusiasts.
Standard safety kit on the Nissan 370Z includes front, side and curtain airbags, traction control and anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD). However, the 370Z lacks more advanced driver assists like lane-keeping, auto emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
Throughout its run from 2009 to 2020, the Nissan 370Z featured a naturally aspirated 3.7-litre V6 engine that delivered up to 328bhp in the standard version and a bit more in the NISMO models. It also offered a choice of six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic gearboxes.
All models come with climate control, keyless entry and engine starting, and Bluetooth connectivity as standard. Later models include a touchscreen and sat-nav. Towards the end of its production, the 370Z offered reversing cameras and upgraded audio systems.
Expect real-world fuel economy of around 26–28mpg for most 370Zs. That's fairly typical for a performance car in this category, though it's worth being aware that spirited driving can push efficiency even lower. CO2 emission figures are also quite high, affecting annual tax.
Common things to check include the rear hatch release and evidence of modifications or upgrades. Other reported issues are weak clutch slave cylinders, tailgate struts and noisy manual gearboxes. Look for a full service history, and for peace of mind, get The AA Vehicle Inspection before you buy.
Nissan generally has a good reputation for reliability, though the 370Z doesn't feature in most reports, due to its specialist nature. Key mechanical elements like the V6 engine are known for durability if properly serviced. Be wary of modified cars and check for evidence of any essential repairs or recalls.
