Though the CX-5 was not Mazda’s first SUV, it was a true ‘nail on the head’ moment for this Japanese brand. Launched in 2012, it’s gone on to become one of the brand’s best-selling models, with its focus on style, spaciousness and a fun driving experience really appealing to SUV buyers. With more than 70,000 CX-5s sold in the UK to date, there’s no shortage of choice, while more recent versions have worked to improve the model’s drivability and technology, with a vast range of equipment now included as standard.
When buying a used Mazda CX-5, check that the service schedule has been followed, especially oil changes, as Mazda’s Skyactiv engines rely on clean oil. On a test drive, listen for suspension knocks, check the rear brakes, and make sure the electronic parking brake works smoothly. It’s also worth testing the infotainment, parking sensors, reversing camera and driver assistance systems before buying.
