Jeep first started selling cars within the UK back in 1992, hitting the ground running with vehicles such as the Cherokee and Wrangler. They were both truly ‘American’ cars, so had the squared-off proportions and chunky design that people associated with cars from the other side of the Atlantic.
In more recent times, Jeep cars here have become far more European-focused, partly due to the influence of parent firm Stellantis which took ownership of the brand in 2021. As a result, many Jeep vehicles share many core components with cars from under the Stellantis umbrella, including Peugeot and Vauxhall.
Some of the latest Jeep models come with some very high-tech safety features. The Avenger, for instance, gets automatic emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist recognition and traffic sign recognition, among other features. All recent models get a good suite of airbags, too, as well as a full electronic stability control system for better control when driving in poor conditions.
Some of the very latest Jeep models offer good levels of fuel efficiency. The latest petrol-powered Avenger, for instance, can return over 40mpg in standard petrol form or 45mpg in hybrid models. Switch to the Compass and you could get just over 40mpg from standard petrol models, or 46.3mpg in e-Hybrid cars. Plug-in hybrid models, meanwhile, can return over 156mpg when fully charged.
You can buy a Jeep Cherokee for just over £2,500. More modern Renegade cars start from around £4,000 for a car with reasonable miles, too. Prices for the relatively new Avenger start from just over £16,000, while the latest Compass cars start from just over £27,000.
Yes - in recent years, Jeep has switched to offer more electric and hybrid cars. The electric Avenger can manage up to 248 miles on a single charge, while a maximum charge speed of 100kW means that it can be taken from 10 to 80 per cent in around 32 minutes. There are also hybrid versions of the Avenger available. The Compass can be equipped with a plug-in hybrid setup, too, which can return around 30 miles of electric-only driving.
Because they’re under the wider Stellantis group umbrella, the latest Jeep models do have a far better record for reliability than before. Earlier cars did suffer from wobbly interior plastics and poor fit-and-finish in many areas. Electric Jeep models should be even less of a hassle due to fewer moving parts than a conventional petrol or diesel car, too.
The latest Jeep vehicles are quite family-focused, so used examples could be suffering from wear and tear associated with family life. Look for scuffed plastics, damaged upholstery and damaged alloy wheels. However, an AA Vehicle Inspection can help make choosing a used car much easier. We’ll send out a trained engineer to conduct a full inspection of the car, during which they ll inspect it for any potential defects or issues and relay that back to you.
Definitely! You can get an AA Vehicle Inspection conducted on all manner of cars - including Jeeps.
You’ll find a variety of the latest Jeep models available to lease today via AA Cars Leasing.
