Overall rating 4.5/5As a comfortable motorway cruiser, which along with its proven off road ability and quality, well-equipped interior, make the Grand Cherokee a SUV which is updated enough to be competitive, but holds on to enough of its rugged past to remain fiercely capable.

Overall rating 4.5/5Having produced the very first 4X4 back in 1941, the Jeep's output has long been built on a reputation of supreme off road ability. The Grand Cherokee carries on this tradition, although newer models have brought about greater luxury and a premium feel - in line with the trajectory of their rivals. The latest generation in particular has seen the Grand Cherokee come into form, but performance in the 3.0 litre CRD engine - delivering a top speed of 126mph and a 0-60mph time of just over eight seconds - does much to retain its utilitarian reputation. A 6.4 litre V8 option exists, but for UK roads the extra power is arguably unnecessary.
