The Infiniti Q50 is a premium saloon built for comfortable cruising and everyday practicality. Generous amounts of standard equipment, bold design and hybrid technology are the biggest draws for drivers, helping it stand apart from rivals like the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class. It ran in the UK from 2014 to 2020 with one generation available, offering strong performance and a silent hybrid option, alongside exclusivity due to its rarity on UK roads. While its interior and handling don’t quite match German alternatives, the Q50 offers strong value and plenty of kit as standard.
The Infiniti Q50 offers an impressive suite of safety features as standard for its class. It achieved a 5-star Euro NCAP rating with high scores for adult and child protection, and features multiple airbags, stability control, and an active bonnet to protect pedestrians. Later models may also include lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring.
The 2.2-litre diesel, performance-focused 3.5-litre V6 hybrid petrol, and 2.0-litre turbo petrol are common UK options, with the hybrid notable for its brisk performance.
Most Q50 models come well equipped with dual touchscreen displays, Bluetooth, DAB radio, climate control and navigation. Higher specs add a premium sound system, adaptive cruise control and additional driver assist features. The infotainment system uses two stacked screens but can feel dated compared to newer rivals.
Official fuel economy ranges from around 31mpg for the 3.5 V6 hybrid to just over 50mpg for the 2.2 diesel, but real-world figures can be lower—especially for the hybrid. This is important to consider if low running costs are a priority.
Check for a full service history and ensure all software is up to date for infotainment performance. Verify the hybrid battery holds its charge in older cars and look for worn brakes or tyres. For added security, consider an inspection with The AA Vehicle Inspection.
Owners generally report good mechanical reliability with few major faults. However, Infiniti’s small UK network and departure from the new car market can make sourcing some parts slower than for mainstream rivals.
