Expert Opinion

The Allroad is the title attached to the off road variants of two of Audi's biggest and best models - the A4 and the A6. With all-wheel drive, a raised ground clearance and increased suspension, the Allroad has the added ability of heading off tarmac, but by retaining a relatively sedate frame it is primed for only light and infrequent visits. In both A4 and A6 variants the diesel options are suited to its rugged requirements - a 3.0 litre TDi impresses in both. But, in the A4, a 2.0 litre, 175bhp is the more sensible and affordable option. Typical of Audis, inside they are lavishly finished, although there is a surprising lack of top spec equipment in all but the highest end models. Space and comfort levels are good however, which are both complemented by a supremely smooth ride. The Allroad is not a car for those looking for vigorous off road ability, but as a competent and powerful cruiser which can venture off road if needed, it is excellent.
