Yes, the Audi A1 Sportback is a good car. Although a bit more expensive than some rivals, as a used buy, you get a well-loaded and finished cabin, punchy powertrains and understated yet striking design, typical of all Audi cars.
The Audi A1 Sportback has been offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The first-generation model was offered with 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 and 2.0-litre TFSI engines along with the 1.6 and 2.0-litre TDI engines. Meanwhile, the current generation is only offered with a set of petrol engines – 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0-litre.
Between both generations of the A1 Sportback, the diesel engines are the most efficient, often breaching the 60 mpg mark. This is followed by the 1.0-litre petrol engines that offer between 45 and 55 mpg. The bigger 1.4,1.5 and 2.0-litre engines offer anywhere between 35 and 55 mpg.
The top-speed of the Audi A1 Sportback depends on the engine configuration. For all standard variants, it ranges between 116 and 145 mph. The S1 Sportback has a much higher top-speed of 155 mph, which is electronically limited.
