  BMW 2 Series

  In a world of SUVs and electric cars, the BMW 2 Series is refreshingly old-school. It's a two-door, four-seater car, with rear-wheel drive, a low driving position, and a pure focus on handling balance. It offers more practicality than a sports car like the Mazda MX-5, but offers a more engaging drive than hot hatchbacks. Over the years, BMW has expanded the 2 Series into a family of models. Alongside the coupe there's the MPV-like Active Tourer and four-door Gran Coupe. We have separate in-depth reviews on both of those cars – here we're focusing on the coupe.

  Dacia might be known for its range of value-focused models like the Sandero and Duster, but the Romanian firm is punching into the premium sector with the Bigster. While still keeping a competitive price, the Bigster brings more space and features that families would want.

  Volvo EX40

  Volvo has set its sights on true electrification and this car - the Volvo EX40 - has formed a part of the Swedish firm’s plans. To make things easier to work out, a recent naming change brought Volvo’s compact electric models closer into line with its combustion cars, hence the C40 became the EC40 and the XC40 became EX40. With its typically Scandinavian feel, the EX40 remains a classy option within the electric car market.

  Toyota GR Yaris

  The Toyota GR Yaris arrived in late 2020, right after the pandemic. And it was unlike any other hot hatch out there. Being a rally homologation special, this Toyota was one of the rare specials. Receiving rave reviews, it proved to be a legitimate rally car clothed in your next-door Yaris attire. Now in its second generation, it is more of an evolution with refinements to make it even better. Has that idea crystallised? Is the Toyota GR Yaris still the best hot hatch out there?

Now in its second generation, the latest GLC launched back in 2022 with the purpose of building on that success. Sitting on an all-new platform, it is packed with cutting-edge technology and a choice of powertrains, which make it more than a worthy rival for the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Lexus RX.

  SEAT Ibiza

  The Ibiza name dates back some 40 years, and over that time the supermini has become a by-word for fun and style, and has been a hit amongst younger customers. It's a top choice with used car buyers, slotting nicely alongside cars like the Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 208 and Hyundai i20. Part of the Ibiza's appeal to used car buyers is its mechanicals. In more recent times it’s been closely related to the Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia, but has leant more on driver appeal and high equipment levels compared to its sisters. The current fifth-generation car has been on sale since 2017 but was updated in 2021 and 2025 to keep it feeling fresh against newer competition.
