A premium compact exec, the Lexus IS marries the manufacturer's trademark quality finishings with solid engineering to produce a car which performs well but has struggled to get a footing in a highly competitive class. The third generation includes the now trademark Lexus hybrid engines, and so manages to stand out with impressive efficiency figures; it is the first compact exec to emit CO2 levels under the road-tax-exempt 100g/km threshold. Handling and ride is also improved on earlier generations, the latter of which is impressively refined and consistent.
