Overall rating 4/5The Fiat Punto is a compact supermini which continues the stylish Italian manufacturer's reputation for good looking, fun cars, but adds practicality and low run costs. It might not be quite as desirable as the class best, but it is a competent alternative.

Overall rating 4/5While the original Punto sort of ceased production in 2010 (which means they're often out there at excellent prices), the Grande Punto, launched in 2005, is a worthy successor/replacement. Called Grande Punto between 2005-09, Punto Evo between 2009-12 and since 2012 the Punto, whatever its name, the newer Punto is cheap to run, easy to drive, incredibly manoeuvrable and ultra smooth, particularly the 1.4 Multi Air petrol engine. As one of the larger superminis, the Punto really is top of the class when it comes to space - four adults and their cases can be well accommodated. If you've got a slightly larger family, the five door Punto is practical for the road and the finances.
