Toyota is continuing its winning ways by scooping up more first places for its engine designs and efficiency.
The 1.0-litre VVT-i engine has won the sub 1.0 litre category at the
International Engine of the Year Awards. The decision was made by a
panel of 65 motoring journalists from 32 countries and announced in
Stuttgart as part of Engine Expo 2008. This is the second year running
that the three cylinder engine fitted to the Aygo and Yaris has received
praise for ‘its smoothness, free-revving character and clever design’.
The engine fitted in the Prius picked up the brand new ‘Green Engine of
the Year’ award – for the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive. The Hybrid
Synergy Drive combines a conventional 1.5-litre petrol engine with a
compact but powerful electric motor, and this is the tenth time which
the Engine Expo’s panel has chosen it for a prize.
The new Green Engine of the Year category has been created for engines
that are designed with fuel economy as a priority and employ
‘intelligent technologies’ to reduce emissions.
